Going Somewhere - Summer 2010

Back to Photographs

During Summer 2010 we have 6 days out to 6 different locations. One a week all starting from Youth Space.

Day 1 - Tuesday 20th July 2010 - The Beach

It did rain a little so rather than the planned trip to Ogmore by Sea we decided Barry Island was a little closer and with more places to shelter from the rain. It was a little damp but we still managed a sand castle competition and a quick dip of the toes in the sea.

Fill a bucket make a sandcastle two of us on the beach waterproofs were definately needed
the cold sea the girls definately got wet Ian did his best to build a castle the rain somewhat hampered efforts

all washed out even with waterproofs on

Day 2 - Wednesday 28th July 2010 - Creative Crafts

It turns out that Ian's definition of Creative Craft was perhaps not that of some others. However today we created the new Youth Space Smoothie Bar and designed its logos and branding materials (Yoo Smooth)

Day 3 - Friday 6th August 2010 - Boat Trip??

Well it was supposed to be a boat trip but with no young people Meleri and Ian spent a good morning clearing out the kitchen cupboards and preparing for future Going Somewheres.

Day 4 - Thursday 12th August 2010 - Cycle Trip

Ian and his Dad were ready for a long days riding. Only one participant came but that didn't stop us going out as planned. After a quick consultation of the map we headed off for a circular tour along the Ely Trail to our lunch stop on the Cardiff Barrage, along the barrage through the bay and back across the special path alongside the Docks link road finishing by climbing back up to Canton alongside the Ely. Oooh and we must mention the fetching Hi-Vis Jackets as there were a few small sections on quiet roads but better to be seen than be sorry.

The day included approx 12 miles of cycling, a lesson in good gear useage and safe road riding.

Then I nearly forgot to mention that Ian's mum and Grandparents came to visit us in Youth Space after we got back and they dropped off the jacket potatoes and Vegetable Chilli for dinner.

Day 5 - Tuesday 17th August 2010 - Amelia Trust Farm

Leaving from Youth Space promptly at 10:00 (OK we waited until 10:20 just in case anyone else turned up). We went to the Amelia Trust Farm in Barry and after signing in and a quick recci of the site with Martin (one of the farm staff) we were set to work clearing a fallen tree off one of the forest trails and repairing holes in a damaged section of boardwalk bridge nearby.

Sorry but we forgot to take any photos on this day as we were a bit busy and a bit muddy from fighting trees on the riverbank.

Day 6 - Wednesday 25th August 2010 - Mountain day out (Brecon Beacons)

Once again rain stopped play, well changed the plan at least. So instead of getting drenched on a mountain side we decided to keep warm in Youth Space for a while and then go to Cardiff Bay and complete the activities from Day 3 that no-one had turned up to. Those that came with us had a great time and saw parts of Cardiff Bay they had never been to including the Senedd, Pierhead building and large map in the Visitor Centre. Of course we can't forget the bags of chips or the rounds of Wii Just Dance.
