Musical Newspapers

Back to the Games Index - Back to the Resource Box

Prep Required

Clear space – sufficient for participants to dance around Newspaper sheets (individual sheets of broadsheet are most fun)

Music device which can be easily started and stopped

Non playing judges to monitor play and stop music

Concept

Similar to musical chairs but with ever shrinking newspaper targets

Rules

Unlike musical chairs players are allowed to share a newspaper if they wish/require. In fact its positively encouraged as the game goes on as it adds to the fun

You will need to ensure that placement of newspaper is suitable so that players can safely fall over if required, particularly towards the end of the game when newspaper areas are rather small.

Playing

Lay a few individual sheets of newspaper around the room

Start music

Players dance around NOT on newspapers

When music suddenly stops Players run for a newspaper and have to stand on newspaper COMPLETELY, "With no part of them touching the floor or any other surface other than the newspaper"

Those found to leave the newspaper whilst music is off are out

Music re-starts and newspaper area is decreased either by removal of a sheet (some sheets will rip up and need removing during play) or by folding of sheets in half

Example

A bit difficult to write an example just try it and see what happens
