Youth Assembly
Back to What's On
The Methodist Youth Assembly is coming around again - 4th to 6th November 2011
at the Pioneer Centre, Kidderminster.
You could simply attend or why not consider putting your name forward for nomination as one of the official representatives from the Wales Synod.
This year, due to feedback we had from those who attended last year, we will see 3 events for different age-ranges, all happening at the same location at the same time, but each with a distinctive 'feel'. We are hoping to extend the range of young people who can attend the event and at the same time provide more age/learning style specific sessions. We are also hoping to extend the range of worship and fun events (hence all the events will join together for times of worship and fun).
To expand on the 3 events planned, they will be:
- Aged 9-13, (i.e. those in educational years 5-9)
- Aged 14-18 (i.e. those in educational years 10-13)
- 18 plus - for those over 18 but under 24
This is a work in progress and don't forget to let us know if you would like to get involved in shaping things as we move forward, and also if you would like to volunteer at the event itself. If you want to know more about the exciting plans for Youth Assembly this year then the get in touch with Ian and he'll find give you all the info he has.

Back to the report from the 2009 Youth Assembly
Youth Space was fortunate enough to have two places at this year's Youth Assembly. Jamie went as a ONE Programme Participant and David was elected as a representative from the Wales Synod.
Jamie writes the following on her experience in Durham;
On the 13th to 15th November 2009, I went to Youth Assembly in Durham. It was a long journey from Cardiff but was well worth it as I had a brilliant weekend. I thought I would let you know about how it went.
Saturday
On the Saturday I had a choice of four different Log Ins (sessions)
You and Your Rights
In this log in we discussed how youth are not given the knowledge of their full rights whn it comes to different problems in day to day life. We talked about different situations that could happen such as getting arrested and our rights when being stopped and searched. It was very interesting to find out about all these rights I am entitled to that I didn't know about.
Youth Violence
In this log in we discussed the amount and types of Youth Violence that goes on around us. We discovered that only 6% of the UK's Youth are involved in any violence related crime. I found this percentage quite shocking as I, along with the rest of my group, thought that this figure would be much higher.
Self Esteem
Here, we talked about our own self esteem and what we think of when we are told someone has high self esteem and low self esteem. For example the people with high self esteem will be full of confidence, where as someone with low self esteem is very quiet and does not like to be noticed. I looked at where my own self esteem was and how I could improve or change a few things to help me.
Diversity
In Diversity we looked at how every person is very different. We drew little stick men/women of ourselves and wrote around the figure all the things that we enjoy and make us different to other people.
It was amazing to see how so many people are different yet we all have something in common - God!
We looked at the possibility of having a diversity Day in our local churches, to celebrate how people are full of diversity and all have something special given to us by God.
Saturday Evening
As you can see Saturday was a busy day! The evening was no different, we had a live Christian band called "Life Colour" play for us.
Sunday
On the Sunday morning we had the business side of the Youth Assembly, this is where we got to vote on different topics that we would like to be brought for discussion at the main Methodist Conference. We also voted for who we would like our new Youth President to be.
At 10:30 on Sunday Morning we then had our Youth Assembly Service. It was really good, we had "Life Colour" playing the music and lots of members from Newcastle District came along and supported us during the service, which was really nice to see.
Then on Sunday Afternoon we had the 7 hours travel back to Cardiff.
I really enjoyed the weekend and got a lot out of it, if you would like to know any more or have any questions then just let me know.
